Shetland Guild of Spinners, Weavers & Dyers
The Shetland Guild of Spinners, Weavers & Dyers was formed in 1988 and has continued to meet on a regular basis since that time. Nowadays we also include the word “knitters” in our publicity. We are affiliated to the Association of Guilds of Weavers, Spinners & Dyers, which helps us keep in touch with other Guilds throughout the country, and leads to an interchange of ideas, sometimes new friends, and inclusion in national exhibitions and competitions.
The Shetland Guild’s objectives include developing interest in the traditional crafts of spinning, knitting, weaving and dyeing; expanding the knowledge of fleece and yarn crafts and production; and bringing knowledge of these crafts to the public through tuition, exhibitions and workshops.
The Guild meets monthly at various locations throughout Shetland, and these meetings are usually advertised in the local paper, radio station and on facebook. We also host workshops and meetings for visiting groups from the UK and beyond.
The Guild holds an annual Exhibition, combined with traditional Sunday Teas, during Shetland Wool Week.
See the events calendar for information on upcoming events in the area.
