Overview
Shetland Family History Society was founded in 1991 and is affiliated to the Scottish Association of Family History Societies. Its purpose is to promote the study of family history and genealogy in Shetland. The Society has approximately 900 members world-wide and close connections with many other like-minded groups, so that everyone has easy access to tracing their Shetland ancestors.
The Society's premises were opened to the public in 1994, and contain an ever-increasing collection of information relating to Shetland families - a computer database of families; various family trees; Shetland censuses 1941-1901 on CD-ROM; microfilm of Old Parochial Registers; transcriptions of all monumental inscriptions extant in Shetland; many miscellaneous lists & articles and a small library for research.
Shetland Family History Society offers a knowledgeable and helpful service to all. Something as simple as researching your family tree can be an exciting experience - a surprise may await you!
