The Böd is a storage booth built in 1780, which was used for storing dried fish and boat gear. It is the only Böd in Shetland that has been renovated to its historical state. This is a special Böd, as it was the birth home of Arthur Anderson, a great Shetland legend and founder of P & O Ferries. Read more Lerwick Oral History Group is a relatively new group, formed in May 2007, to help collect and preserve Lerwick’s past through the recording of oral histories. Group members are currently undertaking a series of recordings, focussing on life in Lerwick in the 1950’s. Read more Scalloway is the ancient capital of Shetland. The Scalloway Museum is located next to Scalloway Castle, very close to the harbour. The Museum is housed in a former knitwear factory which has been completely refurbished to provide a modern Museum facility. The facility will be officially opened by Jens Stoltenberg, Prime Minister of Norway on 17th May 2012. Read more The purpose of Shetland Bus Friendship Society is to educate the public about the historical relevance of the Shetland Bus. It has a membership spread over Shetland, the rest of the UK and Norway. Read more The Tingwall, Whiteness and Weisdale Heritage Group cover districts in the centre of Shetland - one of the most attractive parts of the Mainland. They have a collection of photographs and oral and written history of the areas. Read more The Tingwall Agricultural Museum Steering Group was founded with the hope of bringing Jean Sandison's existing Agricultural Museum back to the public.
